Raw Cashew Yield Calculator

Yield estimation from raw cashew nut (RCN) starts with a simple idea: a fixed amount of RCN produces a predictable range of finished white kernel, expressed in the trade as Kernel Output Ratio, or KOR. The catch is that a single “RCN in, kernel out” number tells you almost nothing about where yield is being lost. Mass disappears at five distinct stages between raw nut and finished kernel — steaming, shelling, drying, peeling, and re-heating — and a processor who only weighs the two endpoints has no way to tell a steaming problem from a cutting problem.

A proper yield calculation tracks all five stage losses separately, in grams lost per kilogram of starting RCN, and checks that they sum back to close to 1,000 g/kg alongside your finished kernel weight. Capacity planning is a different question entirely: not “what yield should I expect” but “how much cutting equipment do I need to hit a target daily volume.” This one gets harder than it looks because raw cashew nut doesn’t arrive as a uniform product — a single day’s intake splits across kernel grades (A+, A, B, C, D) in proportions that shift by origin, and each grade needs its own throughput allocation since blade gaps and cutting-head counts are set per grade, not for a line as a whole.

Sizing a line correctly means starting from daily RCN volume and working hours, applying your origin’s typical grade split, adding an operational buffer for real-world downtime and grading variance, and converting the buffered per-grade figures into a head count using a realistic kg/hr-per-head benchmark. Shelling Efficiency Calculator

Once a line is running, the useful question shifts again: is the shelling stage itself performing well, independent of everything else happening on the floor. Shelling efficiency is really a narrower slice of the same mass-balance thinking behind KOR — instead of tracking all five processing stages, you isolate the cutting stage’s own loss figure (shell and CNSL removed per kg of RCN, plus visible kernel damage or breakage) and watch how it moves over time.

Because shelling is consistently the single largest source of mass loss in the whole process, it’s also the stage where equipment condition shows up fastest. A cutting machine with sharp, well-aligned blades produces a clean split with minimal fines and minimal breakage; a worn or misaligned one drives both figures up, and that shows up directly as a lower KOR even if every other stage is unchanged.
